Hadleigh Youth and Community Work

Our Hadleigh youth team provides youth clubs, outreach and support for young people aged 11-18 across the local community. You may also know us as the Porch Project, a name that’s been part of Hadleigh for many years!

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to go after school, something fun to do on a Friday evening or someone to talk to, we’re here to help.

Based at our youth centre on Hadleigh High Street, we create welcoming spaces where young people can relax, make friends, try new activities and build confidence with the support of trusted youth workers.

What we offer:
Weekly Friday night drop-ins

Our Friday evening drop-ins are a chance to unwind, meet friends and get involved in whatever’s happening that week.

There’s no pressure to join in with everything. Come and play pool, grab a drink, chat to our youth workers, take part in activities or simply spend time somewhere safe and welcoming. Click here to learn more.

School partnerships

Our youth workers also work with local secondary schools across Hadleigh.

Whether it’s one-to-one mentoring, small group sessions or helping young people work through challenges they’re facing, we’re there to provide extra support when it’s needed most.

Working closely with schools means we can build trusted relationships that continue beyond the classroom.

Bespoke sessions

We also run dedicated sessions designed for neurodivergent young people.

These smaller, welcoming groups provide opportunities to make friends, learn new skills and enjoy activities in an environment that’s relaxed, supportive and understanding.

Detached Youth Work

Our youth workers regularly spend time in parks, neighbourhoods and community spaces across Hadleigh, getting to know young people where they already are.

Detached youth work is all about building relationships, listening without judgement and helping young people access the opportunities and support available to them.

What’s happening in Hadleigh?

No two weeks are quite the same.

One week you might be cooking together. The next could be a sports challenge, a creative project, games tournament or simply catching up with friends after a busy week.

Alongside our regular youth clubs, our team is also out in the community and even working in some local schools, making sure support is available wherever young people need it.

Meet Our Youth Workers.

The best thing about Hadleigh isn’t the building.

It’s the people inside it.

Our youth workers are here to listen, encourage and support young people through the everyday ups and downs of growing up. Whether you’ve visited us before or you’re thinking about coming along for the first time, you’ll always find a friendly face.

    Other restrictions?

Specific activities may have restricted age ranges, to allow the team to better target their support at specific groups of young people. Where this is the case, this will be clearly advertised.

  • Are there dedicated sessions for specific groups of young people?

Our free-to-access drop-in sessions are open to all young people aged 11+ (school year 7 upwards). While we do everything that we can to make these as accessible as possible, we are aware that these sessions may not be suitable for some young people.

    Neurodiverse Accessible

Our dedicated session for neurodivergent young people will be returning this autumn. These sessions aim to create a secure and calm environment which includes many of the elements young people enjoy at our drop-in sessions, but with a clear and consistent routine. This enables those susceptible to sensory overload, or who need a more structured and predictable environment to engage in activities at the youth centre.

This term sessions will take place on Tuesdays, 6:30pm – 8pm at Hadleigh Youth Centre,
Sessions will start in October and run through until December. Participants must be booked in advance and commit to attending most of the sessions.

The sessions are for young people aged 11-18, and we believe that they will be most suitable for those who would benefit from a quiet environment and who are currently able to engage in mainstream education. We are aiming to bring together a small group of young people (maximum 8) who we hope will get along well together, and we invite you to book a meet-and-greet session to find out more.

To take part use the following link to book a meet-and-greet session at Hadleigh Youth Centre, for the young person and their parent / guardian. This will give you both an opportunity to find out more about the programme, meet some of the staff and look around the youth centre before committing to attending the session 👉https://bit.ly/24NDHADL

  • Do you need to book or register in advance?

    Yes and No…

    Open access and drop-in sessions

Sessions advertised as drop-in or outreach sessions do not require pre-booking or registration. These are open sessions, open to all young people in the community. When young people arrive for the first time, our youth workers will collect basic details in order to keep them safe during their first visit. They will then be given a letter for their parents or guardians and a link to a consent form. The consent form will then need to be completed by a parent or guardian before they return for their second visit.
