Roger Fern, one of our board of trustees has sadly passed away at the age of 77. Roger, who re-joined the board of Inspire in December 2019, was one of the original group of trustees of this charity when we formed 17 years ago. He brought huge experience for the benefit of our organisation, both in terms of his extensive background in education, safeguarding and Suffolk’s charity sector.
Chair of Inspire Terry Hunt added,
“At the beginning of 2020, as the Charity’s new Chair, I was extremely grateful for the vast experience Roger was able to provide. In terms of his knowledge of the education sector, he had no equal and I was extremely grateful for his willingness and diligence in taking an active role as the trustee with oversight of safeguarding for the charity. On behalf of the board of Inspire, I send our deepest condolences to Rogers family at this very sad time.”
Commenting, Inspire CEO Terry Baxter said,
“Roger was an important driving force in helping establish our charity when, at the time, it had strong connections to Ipswich Town Football Club. He was always such a positive presence, challenging but supportive and always with young people at the forefront of his thinking. Even during the period between his two terms as trustee, Roger continued to support us from afar. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Inspire.”
