Our Ipswich Team programme tidy up garden at Quay Place

16 March 2019

Our young people who are taking part in personal development programme, the Prince’s Trust Team programme, have been making a positive impact on their community by tidying up the garden area at Quay Place, Heritage & Wellbeing Centre in Ipswich.

As part of the 12-week programme for 16-25 year olds, the team members are required to plan and complete a community project of their choice that will then benefit their local community in the future. This provides the young people on the Team programme an excellent opportunity to build news skills including leadership, communication and a fantastic project to add to their CV’s.

The 15 young people fundraised for their community project through a bag pack at Iceland in Ipswich and a bucket collection in town. The Team used the money raised to buy materials needed for their project including plants, seeds, hanging baskets and a shed.

Our young people supported Quay Place for their community project following one Team member noticing that the garden area needed some attention and because their work would benefit the people using the centre for counseling sessions and community activities. The group cleared unwanted weeds, planted fresh plants, cleared rubbish and also put up a shed. The group worked very hard together in the cold weather to get the job done.

Other aspects of the Prince’s Trust Team programme include an outward-bound activity residential trip, two weeks work experience with local employers and a work skills week where the team members work on their CV’s, mock interviews and local businesses visit the programme to support with this.

George, a young person on the programme said: “Quay Place loved that we wanted to help them and have been really helpful whilst we have been completing our project here! We have been working hard to clear the garden area, planting new plants and we even put up a shed. I’ve really enjoyed our community project because it’s nice to do something that will help other people and I hope everyone likes what we have done.”
