Jed’s Story

How confidence, new experiences and the right support helped Jed discover a future he wanted to work towards.

Jed, an Inspire student, sits at a desk doing coursework.

When Jed came to Inspire, anxiety was affecting his confidence and he wasn’t sure what the future looked like. With our one-to-one support, he found direction, discovered a passion for psychology and is now working towards his goal of studying at university.

When Jed first came to Inspire, he was struggling with anxiety and had little motivation or confidence. Most days were spent at home and he wasn’t sure what to do next.

Jed walks towards the camera along the pavement of a residential street with his hands in his pockets.

He joined our Team Programme looking for a fresh start.

The first time around, anxiety was still getting in the way. Jed found it difficult to open up and wasn’t able to take part in the residential. Rather than leaving it there, he decided to come back and complete the programme again.

That proved to be a turning point.

With the support of the Inspire team and a new group of young people, Jed gradually became more confident. He completed the residential, took part in a work experience placement with X Adventures and discovered he was capable of far more than he’d given himself credit for. He developed teamwork, resilience and confidence, while making new friends along the way.

After Team, Jed joined our Engage Programme, where he continued building his confidence and learning more about himself. He developed a better understanding of emotions, discovered leadership skills and challenged himself again on another residential, building his independence and confidence even further.

As his confidence grew, so did his plans for the future.

Jed, an Inspire students, works with a coach 1:1 on his aspirations for the future.

Through one-to-one coaching, Jed started setting clear goals and discovered a genuine interest in psychology and helping other people. It’s a career path he hadn’t considered before joining Inspire.

Today, Jed is studying Maths at West Suffolk College. He’s preparing to start an Access Course before applying to university in 2027 to study Psychology and Criminology.

Looking back, Jed says the biggest difference Inspire made wasn’t just helping him build confidence. It also helped him find direction.

His highlights include:

  • Finding a career he’s genuinely excited about.
  • Meeting new people, including his best friend.
  • Completing the Team and Engage programmes.
  • Realising he’s capable of more than he thought.

His advice to other young people is simple:

“You’ve got nothing to lose, so give it a try.”
