Alex’s Story

“Alex’s journey is a powerful reminder that success is not always straightforward. It’s about showing up, facing challenges, and
continuing to try, even when things feel overwhelming.
When Alex completed his Level 1 Electrical course at Suffolk New College, he found himself at a crossroads. Although he had developed strong technical skills, the social side of college was a real challenge. Struggling to connect with peers and cope with group dynamics, Alex often felt out of place. These difficulties continued during his work placement with an electrical company, where informal workplace banter presented yet another hurdle.
Despite these challenges, Alex showed quiet determination. He continued attending his placement and did his best to adapt to an unfamiliar environment. At the same time, he focused on improving his English—a subject that had caused him stress
since school, where he had achieved a grade 3, just below the required standard.
Recognising English as key to his next steps, Alex committed to studying for his Level 4 qualification. During this period, Inspire became involved in Alex’s journey through a referral from the college. Initially, apprenticeship routes were explored, but it was agreed to wait for the outcome of his English result before making any final decisions.
The wait was worth it. Alex passed his English qualification—an incredible milestone that not only opened doors but also lifted a huge emotional weight. It was a moment of pride and relief
for both Alex and those supporting him.

With his new qualification, attention turned to enrolling Alex on a Level 2 course. The enrolment process proved far from
smooth—logistical mix-ups and technical issues made the day stressful—but Alex remained calm and focused, taking it all in his stride.
Eventually, he secured his place on the course, a testament to his resilience and growing self-belief. Today, Alex stands not only
as a student but as a role model—proof that with the right support and inner strength, young people can overcome significant barriers. He is a true example of what it means to be inspirational
