Thomas’s Story

Thomas was referred to Tony in April 2025 by EHT at SCC, seeking support with gaining employment and/or training, as well as building his confidence. From the outset, Thomas was fully engaged and demonstrated a clear enthusiasm to progress and develop.

Tony and Thomas began by creating a CV and covering letter and exploring Thomas’s career goals. Thomas was clear that his main ambition was to work in construction, initially as a labourer. This goal was quickly identified as his primary focus, and Tony arranged for him to attend a CSCS card training course to support his entry into the construction industry.

Thomas excelled on the course, passing with flying colours. His tutor commented that “this lad will do well and go far with his attitude and enthusiasm,” a sentiment Tony consistently observed throughout his work with Thomas. Following this, Thomas fully committed to his job search, applying for a wide range of construction roles.

Tony mentioned Thomas to his brother, who runs D. Wilson Roofing, explaining that Thomas simply needed an opportunity to prove himself. Thomas was offered a short trial period, during which he exceeded all expectations. Feedback from the company highlighted that Thomas is punctual, friendly, hardworking, committed, and enthusiastic. He is always willing to learn and regularly asks for additional tasks once he has completed his own work.

His strong work ethic and positive attitude impressed the entire team, and as a result, Thomas was offered a full-time position with D. Wilson Roofing. Since starting his role, Thomas has continued to thrive, has passed his driving test, and has purchased his first car—significant personal milestones that reflect his growing confidence and independence.
