This role is essential for the day to day operations of our construction sites, allowing us to complete work in a timely manner.

Your main contacts will be the company Directors, although you will be working with experienced Groundworkers on a day to day basis to support your development.

What you will do in your working day

Main duties include:

  • Attend site at the required times.
  • Work with experienced groundworkers to complete works as required on site and in line with your college syllabus.
  • Work with hand tools to complete work as required by the company directors.
  • Engage with additional training as required by the company to assist your development.
  • Work in line with company health and safety policy and procedure ensuring your safety and the safety of others on site.

You will work on site with seasoned and experienced groundworkers, and may need to move from one team to another to facilitate your development, or to meet the needs of the business. Groundworkers are the first trade onto a construction and civil engineering site and they work closely with supervisors and engineers in interpreting design specifications to prepare the site ready for the structural building works to take place. They continue their work throughout the construction phase, working with all on-site construction trades, such as bricklayers and plant operatives, up to and including the final completion activities of the project. Their work includes setting out and preparing the sub-surfaces ready for the structural work to begin, installing drainage systems, concreting, constructing roads and pathways and carrying out the finished hard landscaping.

 

The training you will be getting

  • The learner will be studying the Groundworker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
  • Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.
  • Attendance to college one day per week.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you may be offered full-time employment as a Groundworker with our company.
