Saturday 25th February, saw the 3rd year of the Suffolk FA Silent Weekend sponsored by Total Football, which focuses on letting the players play without any instructions given from both parents or coaches to create a positive match-day environment.
Inspire’s youth football teams took part, with the idea being to allow players to play giving them a chance to explore the game and develop their own outcomes.
As with many teams, Inspire’s philosophy is to increase player ownership, allowing players to make their own decisions without assistance. It was great to be able to take a step back from the sideline and be able to watch a competitive and enjoyable game.
Chris Scopes, Inspire Sports Coach who coaches the Under 8’s allowed one of his players to take the team talk and he was very impressed with what the young player said to his team mates.
Off the back of this success, we are now looking for players to lead part of the team talk before, during and after the upcoming games. (Hopefully we are encouraging coaching at a young age and they may work for Inspire in the future!).
