YES Youth Employment Service, operating throughout East Suffolk, introduces online Career Club to assist young people in searching for jobs amid coronavirus outbreak.
The Youth Employment Service (YES) traditionally supports young people aged 16-24 who are NEET (not in employment, education, or training) through 1:1 support sessions, group workshops, and by hosting third part training opportunities.
Funded by East Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council and the East Suffolk Partnership, YES is delivered by Inspire through hubs in Lowestoft, Leiston, Saxmundham and Felixstowe with the support of Access Community Trust.
Due to the covid-19 outbreak, these locations are currently closed, and much of the practical delivery has had to stop, but as a team they were keen to be able to reach young people in new ways, beyond phone-calls and emails; as Employment Coach, Ross Ingram, says;
“It’s one thing to be able to tell someone I’m supporting to have a look on a website, but now we’re able to combine all the brilliant resources available, with bespoke support and presentations; I think this will be great for local young people, both now, and in the future”.
This week the Youth Employment Service launched it’s online Career Club. The programme spans across 6 weeks, and combines online resources, such as YouTube videos, virtual tours, and useful websites, with interactive webinars hosted by the YES team. Each week a new topic is ‘unlocked’ as learners make their way through the Career Club programme.
“It is so important that young people in the area are using this time wisely, which is why I’m so pleased to be launching our online programme, to enable young people to access support and guidance with their career ambitions, during a time in which we must all stay indoors.” – Adam Watts, Employer Engagement Advisor, YES
