Chili Tozer, 13, has raised over £1,500 for Inspire by making face masks in memory of her cousin, Harley. After he sadly took his life earlier this year, his family have helped us to support young people in Suffolk by fundraising.
Chili has been selling facemasks on her Instagram page and has sold over 600 so far. She is a fantastic role model to other young people who want to make a difference in their community, and we are incredibly grateful for her support. Her ingenuity and generosity will help so many at a time when it’s never more needed.
We spoke to Chili about how she got started and where the idea came from. Here’s her story…
“I started making facemasks when my mum brought some chilli pepper fabric for my nanny to make me a mask, as I go to school in Norwich and have to take public transport to get there.
When I received my mask, I wanted to make some more for myself. So I got my sister’s sewing machine down and Facetimed my Nanny Viv, who taught me how to use it. I found my dad’s dust sheets to practise making some masks.
In January, I lost my cousin Harley and my mum suggested making facemasks and selling them to friends and family to raise some money for Inspire. Inspire was my family’s chosen charity for donations at my cousin’s funeral.
I have so far sold over 600 facemasks and raised £1,500 on my Instagram, called Chilis Face Masks. It’s good to give back and help others who need extra support.
I would like to thank my dad for funding the fabric and elastic at the beginning to help me start the fundraising. Also thank you to my mum who has helped me cut the masks and sew the elastic, and my nanny who taught me to sew and helped me out a lot.”
A huge thank you to Chili from all of us at Inspire.
If you’d like to take a look at all the wonderful designs that are available, you can visit Chili’s Face Masks on Instagram. Each mask costs £5, and £2 from each one will be donated to Inspire (£1 postage).
